How to carry less in 3 stepsUpdated 2 years ago
Often, we have a habit of collecting keys and unconsciously carry every single one of those keys – even if we don’t need them anymore.
These three A’s methods will help you let go of the extra baggage – and help free up unnecessary bulk in the process.
STEP 1 - AUDIT
Make a list of all the keys you currently carry, and figure out what they are for.
STEP 2 - ASSESS
Take a moment to think about which keys you actually need with you at all times – most likely your house or apartment key, car key, and maybe a mailbox key or similar. Let's call these Primary keys and set them aside for the assembly process.
All of your other keys – Secondary keys will likely have some sort of context dependence and can therefore be kept elsewhere.
For example, you drive to the gym, so your gym key can live in the glove compartment – or you always have to pack before going to your holiday house, so those keys can be kept safe in a drawer at home.
STEP 3 - ADAPT
Moving forward – once you have cut down the number of keys you carry daily, you need to figure out how you can manage it all.
For example, consider adapting your routine of grabbing the holiday house keys from the drawer when packing.
Similarly, instead of keeping everything in one bunch, have different sets of keys for different purposes (such as a house, work, or gym keys).
We understand it might be daunting not to carry all the keys at the start, but remember that you can always adjust these approaches as you go.
